IBEW Local Union 180 - Newsletter

November 1, 1999

The fight to require a license to perform electrical work in the State of California is now a reality. It has taken many years and a great deal of concerted effort to bring it about This is very important legislation that will help our members and contractors to capture more of the market in addition it will also add to our burden to organize and educate.

Our office has received a lot of inquiries about the new license. The license requirement will be mandatory January 1, 2001, and currently classes are being developed to prepare you to take the examination, so watch for class schedules in the future. We will notify you as soon as possible.

It has been many years since the By-Laws of Local #180 have been published in a booklet form. Now we can say that the entire Bylaws have been retyped and have gone to the printer. As soon as they are ready, every member will be sent a new copy.

Additionally our Inside Construction Agreement that includes the most recent amendments is being prepared for printing. This always becomes a drawn out process, since all the changes must be sent to our International Office for approval. Printing the new agreement is held off until the “Approved” copy comes back to us from Washington. When they are ready for distribution, you will be notified.

School has started for our Apprentice Training classes, at the Vallejo Adult School site, 1140 Capitol Street, Vallejo. We are lucky to have the use of the facility while the finishing touches are going on for the new Training Center. We are all anxious to make the move!

Badges are being distributed to all members who meet the requirements of an Inside Wireman. If you have not received yours, please contact the Business Manager to set up an appointment

Travel letter reminder: Travel letters are issued to our members who are unemployed. To obtain one, come into the Office and request one. We can not mail them out. They are not for employed members.

Note that the Office of Local Union #180 will be staying at the 404 Nebraska Street site at least through the month of November. Will let you know soon as possible of the date
