Children's Christmas Party
Children's Christmas party Local Union #180 will hold a Children's Christmas Party on Saturday, December 16.  Gifts, refreshments, games, and of course Santa Clause will be here for the festivities.  Santa plans on arriving at 1:00 and stay until all the toys and gifts have been “delivered”.  The party is open to all children.  Parents are optional.  Funding for this event will come from our local Labor/Management Cooperation Committee.

Stairway Update
Construction on stairs and deck to accommodate access to our second floor is underway.  Completion is expected soon and if the weather is kind to us we should have full utilization of our “Great Room”.  Who Knows? We could be in by Christmas.

From the President
First of all, I would like to thank all of the Members that voted on our By-Laws change. The turn out and the final tally showed a strong support for the Business Representatives of Local Union #180. We are in some dynamic times and with this, it calls upon us as Officers to take drastic measures. Some may question the aggressive Organizing tactics, but it is up to all of us as IBEW Members to step up and help with this challenge. It is up to us to help bring the talent to the job. It is also up to us to educate and mold new members into good mechanics. As an Officer of the Local, I call out to all experienced members, please lend a helping hand and let's educate "all" wiremen in Local #180's jurisdiction. if we have the manpower, those Contractors who are not signatory will have to come to us for help.

Dan Broadwater
President Local 180

From the Organizer
Organizing across the United States and Canada has reaped reaped 30,000 new 'A" members into the IBEW in the last year. These gains have not come easily. It is the result of those before us that had the vision and foresight to lay the ground work for what has become the envy of the Building Trades.

With the holiday season upon us and full employment in most Locals, it would seem we all have a lot to be thankful for. The conditions we enjoy today are the result of the labors of past Business Managers, Organizers, Staff, Officers and the Rank and File Membership of Local 180. We must continue to strive for future gains and preserve those we enjoy today.

Rich Mattson, Organizer

JATC
Just a quick update on our Joint Apprenticeship and Training program.
We currently have:
 6 Inside Wireman Apprentice Classes
 2 Residential Apprentice Classes
 4 Sound and Communications Classes
 5 Journeyman Classes
This represents 200 plus students and demonstrates the commitment of Local Union 180.
This commitment is to bring people into our Industry, offer them training and expect a level of excellence that our contractors and their customers demand and deserve.

Starting on Monday October 2, 2000 we will be offering a Conduit Bending Class. For those of you in need of this training call the JATC for more information or just show up at the first class.  It is imperative that the skill level of our wireman “be all that it can be”.

Retiree's Corner
The Electricians Retirees Club met at the Local #180 Meeting Hall on October 4, 2000.  Sandy Stevens served as Secretary Pro-Tem for Alice Breckenridge who is recovering from knee surgery.  Brother Harold Herrman, Treasurer, was absent because of the death of Sadie, his wife and member of our Club.

We gained a new retiree: “Bud” Huss.  The September Meeting saw us welcome Brother Deane Rader and his wife, Margarita.  Also, Bob Price joined us for the November Meeting. Please come on out and join in.  We need you retirees to keep us going with your new ideas & vitality.

We will have our Annual Christmas Luncheon at Tonelli’s on December 6, at 12:30 PM.

We will again cruise the Hawaiian Island May 24-June 2, 2001.  Come join with us.  For information call Ken at 643-4139.

Be sure to get out and vote for “Labor Friendly” candidates.  Let’s take back the Senate!

For information concerning reservations or membership call:

Sound & Communications
The Regular Sound & Communication Unit Meeting will be held on November 15, 2000, at 7:00 pm.  Hopefully information concerning the ongoing Negotiations of the agreement for Northern California will be available.  There are many other issues important to the membership that will be discussed, so please stay informed.  Please plan to attend.

Residential
Work continues to be good and we should be putting more people to work.  State Certification is progressing and training for refresher information is available and classes are ongoing.  We are in the process of “re-signing” one of our long time Residential Contractors and are looking forward to a long and rewarding relationship for all parties.

This Contractor has informed me that he just got a contract with 200 units and will begin soon.  We will need more manpower, both Apprentices and Journeymen.  If you know of anyone interested in a career in the electrical industry, have them contact the Office.

UNION BUILT MEANS BETTER BUILT
You want a “ no-worry” electrical system installed in your home Safe, reliable and guaranteed.  Then you need an electrical system installed by a union electrical contractor.  That’s right– UNION!  A competent union electrical contractor who employs qualified IBEW union electricians.
