1st Annual Children's Easter Egg Hunt
Between 11:00 A.M and 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, March 23 our Local LMCC sponsored
a Children's Easter Egg Hunt at the Training Facility. Refreshments
were served and prizes awarded. Even with uncertain weather the turnout
was great. We plan on continuing this tradition.
Thanks to our Easter Bunny Gary McCoy for all his work for the event.

Dental Plan Update
Change in benefits for the Dental Plan
IMPLANTS
The Health & Welfare Trustees have added implants (artificial materials
implanted into or on bone or soft tissue), or the surgical removal of implants,
to be available to participants as an alternative treatment to bridgework
and crowns or removable partial and full dentures. The Plan benefits
for implants are the same as for the Plan benefits for Prosthodontics.
Implants will be replaced only after five years have elapsed.
From the President
If the Voter participation in November is as insignificant as the Primary
was in March, we WILL find it next to impossible to keep Labor friendly politicians.
Governor Gray Davis will not make every one of our members happy. But he
has done more to help Organized Labor than any Elected Official in his office
has in over 16 years. A pitiful 7% of the registered voters in Napa County
hit the polls on March the 5th We can make a difference at the polls. Absentee
ballots may me our salvation. Please get registered and let's make a difference.
We are about to finish up our 1st set of Journeyman classes of the year. It is discouraging to have so few members enrolled. For the members that have not had formal training, please take advantage of these opportunities.
Meetings with the Management at Valero have brought good news. Upcoming maintenance work will be put out to bid, and we were assured it will have a Union presence. There is approximately $150 Million worth of new construction that will be done under the National Stabilization Agreement. A guarantee of 70% of upcoming work will be Union, with the other 30% being put out to bid.
Currently we have a Peaker Power Plant under construction at the Vaca/Dixon
Substation. A few more hands will be required for this project. A Peaker Plant
scheduled to be built in Cordelia never made it past the Planning Commission.
Apparently it was to close to the new High School.
Cal-Pine has purchased the permits and projects from Panda Industries at
the Lambie Industrial Park outside of Travis Air Force Base. It is scheduled
to start in late spring.
Schoolwork has been very frustrating to say the least. Vacaville Schools have all gone non-union while Vallejo Schools have yet to require manpower.
Although the books have been full since the holidays, it has allowed us to "Salt". Valuable information has been gathered, and accomplishments have been achieved. Since the ruling February 16th, apprentices will be paid prevailing wages whether on private or public, Union or non-union. Many have come forward asking for our help. Our Organizer along with the help of Greg Armstrong are following up with compliance in our jurisdiction.
Nominations will be held at the May Regular Meeting and Elections in June. Please attend these very important meetings.
Dan Broadwater
President Local 180
From the Organizer:
Organizing continues to be sluggish with the current work situation. Salting
seems to be a viable alternative for members who are unemployed. We appreciate
the service these Salts provide. Anyone interested in salting should contact
the President or myself. We have established a list of targets to pursue.
Please consider this as an option. Salting is a valuable organizing tool and an honorable service to the Brotherhood.
Jobsite visits have started with the new Mission 2000 compliance officer Greg Armstrong. The public work arena in our jurisdiction is rampant with violations and outright cheating. Leveling the playing field will be a daunting task that Greg is certainly qualified to handle.
